Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear #38, also called Flirt, is a super-dark violet. From a distance, people will actually mistake it for black polish. $2.59 at your local CVS or Walgreens. Not sure if this will placate your mum, though, because it still has a gothic look. Perhhaps you should just try rationally bargaining with her, emphasizing your maturity and making clear that just because you want to wear black polish doesn't mean you want to be one of ';those'; kids she's probably thinking of.
Do you like deep plum or deep burgundy? Both look blackish in some lights but also have a another color sheen to them. Other than that you can't paint your nails black and not have your Mom see them unless you wear gloves all the time.
